FORWARD GRADUATION

Forward Graduation is a combination of a ONE LENGTH haircut at the back and face framing graduation at the front

 
The Forward Graduation haircut is done in 2 stages:

 

STAGE 1: ONE LENGTH HAIRCUT

Complete the one length haircut as per the process

STAGE 2: FORWARD GRADUATION

In this section, we will be going through STAGE 2 only.

2A SECTIONING
Take a diagonal forward section at back of head, 2 inches above nape, on both sides of centre profile

2B CUT
i. Separate hair below diagonal forward at the centre

ii. Comb section down to natural fall

(ie cut in parts using previously cut hair as guide)

3A SECTIONING

Same as 2A, at 2 inches above

Take second diagonal forward section, 2 inches above previous section, on both sides of centre profile

Same as 2B, using section 2 as guide

i. Comb down to natural fall

ii. Cut Square

iii. Use piecemeal technique

OPTIONAL:
THIRD DIAGONAL FORWARD SECTION

If crown area is more than 3-4 inches from the mid point of diagonal forward in step 3, you can take one more diagonal forward section.

Otherwise, proceed to Step 4.

HORSESHOE

4A SECTIONING

Take a horseshoe parting at crown level

i. Take parting from crown to MID RECESSION on one side

ii. Repeat on the other side to get a horseshoe parting

4B CUT

Same as 2B & 3B, using previous sections as guide

i. Comb down to natural fall

ii. Cut Square

iii. Use piecemeal technique

IMPORTANT:

When cutting hair in front of the ear,

overdirect the hair slightly to the back before cutting

STEP 4: RESULT

REST OF HAIR

i. Open out the rest of the hair and comb it down to natural fall

ii. Cut same as previous section, 4B, using previously cut hair as guide

iii. Remember to overdirect hair in front of the ear,

slightly to the back before cutting

iv. Remeber to use the PIECEMEAL technique

v. As the final step, tidy up the perimeter by cutting off loose hair
